TIPS

TRAVELLING AROUND HANOI

Grab is a popular ride-hailing service in Southeast Asia. It’s convenient and relatively affordable. You can use the Grab app to book rides around Hanoi. Here are some tips:

  • Ensure you have the Grab app downloaded on your smartphone.
  • Make sure your phone has a stable internet connection.
  • Always check the estimated fare before confirming your ride.
  • Keep in mind that peak hours might result in higher fares and longer wait times.

Taxis are widely available in Hanoi, and you can easily hail one on the street. Here’s what you should consider:

  • Look for reputable taxi companies to avoid scams. Taxi Group, G7 and Mai Linh are among the most reliable.
  • Make sure the taxi meter is turned on at the beginning of your journey.
  • If possible, have the destination address written down in Vietnamese to show the driver.

Electric Car (E-Car) are becoming increasingly popular for short trips and sightseeing in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. Here are some suggestions:

  • There are different routes to explore the city. Prices ranges from 35.000vnd/person (Max. 7pp per car) to VND380.000 per private car/hour rental
  • E-cars are an excellent option for exploring narrow streets and alleys in the Old Quarter where larger vehicles may not fit.

Cyclos are traditional Vietnamese cycle rickshaws, offering a unique and leisurely way to explore Hanoi’s streets. Here’s what you should keep in mind:

  • Negotiate the fare with the cyclo driver before starting your journey. The common fare is 200.000VND/cyclo/hour/2 people
  • Cyclos are best suited for short distances and sightseeing rather than long journeys.
  • Be prepared for slower travel compared to taxis or Grab rides, but enjoy the leisurely pace and the chance to soak in the atmosphere of the city.

FOR YOUR SAFETY

Be cautious with street vendors (shoe repair, shoe shining, donuts, fruits, street vendors) when they attempt to approach you, as they might overcharge you.

Remember to keep an eye on your phone and purse in crowded places, as there could be pickpockets nearby.

On weekends, Hang Be and Ma May streets will become pedestrian streets (from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM; Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings). Please note that if you return from outings, you may need to park your vehicle at the beginning of the street and walk to your hotel.

DRESS CODE

When visiting religious sites or more conservative areas, it’s respectful to cover your shoulders and knees.
